MABTON – The Mabton Viking boys soccer team has had a great start to the 2014 season, winning the first two games.
This past Saturday, the Vikings shut out the Naches Rangers, winning 6-0.
First to get the ball between the crossbars was Mabton’s Tony Espinoza at the sixth minute of the match. Mauricio Palominos, responsible for a total of four assists against Naches, passed the ball to Espinoza for the goal.
Daniel Cambron of the Vikes scored the next two goals. He was assisted by Jose Andrade at the 17th minute of the match, and Palominos provided the assist in the 48th minute.
It was teammate Oscar Aguilar who scored a hat trick this past Saturday, tacking on three goals for added security. His first goal came in the 60th minute, the ball soared into the back of the net again in the 65th minute and the final goal was made just five minutes later. Andrade provided the assist on the last goal, and Palominos made the passes that provided Aguilar scoring opportunities for the other two.
“Our defense helped secure the shutout,” said Mabton Coach Junior Garcia.
He said the Vikings dominated the match with 20 scoring attempts that kept the Naches keeper busy. The Ranger was able to deny 14 shots.
Mabton keeper Miguel Abundiz saw little action, but he was able to prevent the ball from hitting the back of the net on four scoring attempts.
“Naches is young…I think we will be tested once we face Wahluke (this coming Saturday),” said Garcia, stating the Warriors are a strong team.
However, the Vikings have two other matches before then. Mabton will tomorrow (Tuesday) travel to Ki-Be and will host Granger on Thursday.
