MABTON – Although the scores don’t show it, Mabton Coach Jesus Sustaita said his girls played well in their season opening double-header this past Saturday.
The Lady Vikings lost both games to the Burbank Coyotes by identical scores of 13-4.
“We need to cut down on the errors,” said Sustaita. “Burbank capitalized on our errors.”
In the opener, Mabton pitcher Risa Navarro struck out four while issuing only five free passes. She also had a hit.
Lady Viking catcher Crystal Cruz was 1-for-4 hitting with a run batted in. Also getting hits for Mabton were Sandra Gonzalez (1-for-4), Cassidy McCallum (1-for-4) and Cristina Gonzalez (2-for-4).
Navarro also pitched the second game, giving up six walks and striking out two. She also got a hit in the game, along with catcher Cristina Gonzalez, Cruz, Sandra Gonzalez and Abigail Gonzalez.
“They did a good job overall,” said Sustaita.
The Lady Vikes will travel to Tri-City Prep tomorrow, Tuesday, for a double-header.
