GIRLS PREP SOCCER
MT. SPOKANE – It was all but over in a span of about 20 minutes yesterday, as the Sunnyside Lady Grizzly soccer lost at Mt. Spokane, 6-0.
Tuesday’s loser-out match saw Mt. Spokane enjoy a five-goal blitz between the 16th minute and halftime to take a 5-0 lead at the break.
“We weren’t marking, weren’t communicating, making too many bad passes,” Coach Sylvia Villagrana said of her team’s tough start.
Sunnyside was able to right the ship a bit in the second half in holding Mt. Spokane to just one goal over the final 40 minutes.
The Lady Grizzlies, however, were unable to crack the scoreboard despite six shots on goal yesterday. “We had our chances, we stepped up a bit but we couldn’t complete our chances,” said Villagrana.
Sunnyside keeper Vanessa Loera recorded 10 saves yesterday.
The loss ended Sunnyside’s 2013 campaign with a season record of 6-11.
“There are a lot of things to work on for next year,” Villagrana said. “We want to push harder and we’ll have nine seniors next year, so we’ll look forward to hopefully improving.”
