BICKLETON – Junior Lindsay Brown recorded her second double-double of the season last Saturday, which led to the Bickleton girls hoop team chalking up its first win of the season.
Playing the visiting Granger JV, Bickleton’s varsity prevailed by a 40-38 margin.
Brown nearly registered a triple-double on Saturday, coming up just one steal short of accomplishing that feat. Along with the nine turnovers she created, Brown pumped in a team-high 15 points and came away with 11 rebounds.
“The girls played well,” Bickleton Coach Emily Barnhart said of her Lady Pirates (1-3). “They got the lead early and were able to maintain it throughout the rest of the game.”
With eighth grader Jayce Alex-ander canning another 10 points for Bickleton, the host Lady Pirates forged a 19-15 first-half lead on Granger. Each club knocked down 12 points in the third period. The Spartans cut the final deficit to just two points by outscoring Bickleton 11-9 in the final stanza.
The top scorer Saturday was Granger’s Diana Solorio. She hit for 30 points.
Barnhart said her club is still struggling in getting the ball to drop through the hoop. “Our shooting percentage is still a lot lower than we’d like it, but it is starting to rise. The second half of the game we shot 35 percent from the field, which is an improvement.”
The Bickleton coach also noted that her Lady Pirates did a better job in not coughing up the ball.
Bickleton has another non-league game scheduled for this coming Friday, that contest to be played at Helix, Ore.
