Early this morning Sunnyside police officers discovered a vehicle on fire.
Officers say at around 1:40 a.m. they found a small car near Terry Street and NW Crescent Avenue with a fire inside the vehicle. Officers reported the vehicle fire was extinguished, but the car was completely burned and missing its engine. Officers later learned the vehicle had been previously reported stolen.
In other police news, the Sunnyside High School security system proved to be helpful early this morning as an alarm sounded at around 3:30 a.m. alerting officers to a possible burglary in progress. Sunnyside police officers investigated the south portables of the school and apprehended two juveniles whom officers say were attempting to break in to school property.
Officers also yesterday (Tuesday) investigated a shoplifting report at a business in the 2000 block of Yakima Valley Highway. Officers took into custody one juvenile male.
Sunnyside cops also fielded four animal complaints, a civil problem, a custodial interference, two reports of domestic disputes, three graffiti reports and a harassment accusation yesterday. Officers also kept busy yesterday investigating three suspicious circumstance reports, three traffic problems, a vandalism report, and three non-injury vehicle accidents. Sunnyside officers also responded to two automatic alarms, an agency assistance request and two citizen assistance requests.
