Yesterday (Sunday) Yakima County Sheriff's deputies were alerted to an alleged kidnapping and a shooting.
Just before 5:30 p.m. yesterday a man receiving treatment for a gunshot wound at Sunnyside Community Hospital reported he had been walking on SR-241 earlier when someone shot him. He was not cooperative with deputies beyond that, stating he couldn't give a better location for the shooting.
Approximately two hours later a man in the 1800 block of Snipes Pump Road near Sunnyside arrived at a residence, reporting he was the victim of a kidnapping. He said unknown assailants kidnapped him from the Toppenish area and blindfolded him before leaving him near the residence from which he was reporting the incident. Further details were not available.
Deputies have also since last Friday responded to a drive-by shooting in the 5200 block of East Euclid Road near Mabton. The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. and the number of shots fired were not detailed.
A resident in the 900 block of Pleasant Street near Grandview yesterday just after 1 p.m. reported gunfire. She told deputies her nephew was standing outside the residence when a gun was fired at him. The youngster was not injured and the home was not struck by the bullet.
Deputies have also investigated two burglaries and a theft since last Friday. Items were stolen from a home in the 8800 block of Emerald Road and a business in the 100 block of Factory Road, both near Sunnyside last Friday. Sprinkler heads were reported stolen from property in the 2200 block of North County Line Road near Grandview this past Saturday.
Deputies have also responded to three suspicious activity calls in the Lower Valley, as well as provided five agency assists.
