Since last Thursday, Sunnyside residents have reported three shooting incidents.
Thursday just after 9 p.m., a resident in the 1700 block of Cascade Way reported suspects in a Honda speeding through the neighborhood shot at two homes in the area.
Shortly before midnight Saturday a resident in the 500 block of North Fourth Street reported a suspect in an SUV fired a weapon at him. Two suspects are believed to have exchanged gunfire in the incident, according to police officials. The suspects were relatively close to one another, with one standing in the street and another in a lawn nearby.
One individual, Gilberto Garcia Ramos, 22, of Sunnyside was struck in the upper torso and was privately transported to the hospital.
The caller said a suspect, when fleeing the scene, backed his SUV into another vehicle, causing damage to the rear of the SUV.
Officers executed a search warrant at the home, located and seized 74 ounces of marijuana, scales and a loaded shotgun.
Noted as a person of interest in the case is Simon Estrada, 31, of Sunnyside. He, according to police, has warrants of an unrelated nature.
Julio Estrada, 28, was also named as a person of interest in the case. Requested charges issued by the Sunnyside Police Department include unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and felony possession of marijuana. He is a previously convicted felon.
A third shooting incident was reported yesterday (Sunday) at approximately 10:45 a.m. in the 600 block of Skyline Drive. The caller said one gunshot was fired.
Also reported to Sunnyside police officers were eight thefts.
Two juvenile males were witnessed stealing boxes from a delivery truck in the 1200 block of Tacoma Avenue just after 1 p.m. Thursday.
Dog food was reported stolen from a business in the 100 block of West South Hill Road at approximately 1:45 p.m. that day, and a bike was reported stolen by three juvenile male suspects in the 100 block of West Lincoln Avenue just after 6 p.m. Thursday.
A 1998 Acura Integra was reported stolen from the parking lot at Mid Valley Mall just before 8:30 p.m. Thursday, and items were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 60 block of Allen Road just after 8:30 a.m. Friday.
A cell phone was reported stolen at Sierra Vista Middle School just after noon Friday, as well.
Sunday, a propane tank was stolen from a home in the 300 block of Merrick Avenue just before 2 p.m. A resident in the same neighborhood reported catching two male subjects in the act of stealing a lawnmower. The lawnmower fell from the suspect's pick-up when the owner confronted the individuals and they fled the scene.
Saturday just after 8 p.m. an individual at Sunnyside Community Hospital reported an individual there had been the victim of a rape.
Also since last Thursday, the Sunnyside Police Department has fielded five animal problem calls, 12 fights, a missing person report and 16 traffic calls. Police have served six arrest warrants and two court orders, as well as recovered three stolen vehicles.
