Lower Yakima Valley graduates will be celebrating the completion of their high school education next month, and schools throughout the valley are wrapping up commencement exercise plans.
The class of 2009 at Sunnyside High School will celebrate graduation at Clem Senn Field Friday, June 5. Exercises will commence at 8 p.m. Speaking at the event will be valedictorian Jacob Rogers and co-salutatorians Megan Tyler and Henedina Tavares. The faculty speaker has not yet been decided upon.
Six tickets will be provided to each graduate for reserved seating the week of graduation. Additional seating will be available, however.
The number of students graduating with the Sunnyside High School's class of 2009 will be dependent upon completion of senior projects and other graduation requirements taking place within the month.
Sunnyside Christian High School will graduate 15 students this year. Commencement exercises will be at Grandview Church of the Nazarene Friday, June 5, at 7:30 p.m.
Speaking for the class will be co-valedictorians Erika Den Hoed and Melanie Van Wingerden.
Tickets are not required for the event.
Grandview, like Sunnyside, has not yet determined the number of students graduating with the class of 2009. Students are still in the process of completing graduation requirements.
Graduation ceremonies, however, are planned to take place at Rich Leenhouts Stadium Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m., and the class valedictorian, salutatorian and faculty speaker have not yet been announced.
Tickets will not be required for the event unless in the case of intermittent weather. In the case of such an event, tickets will be provided to each graduate and commencement exercises will be held in the Grandview High School gymnasium.
A baccalaureate is scheduled for the Grandview High School class of 2009. It is slated for Wednesday, June 3, in the high school gym. The time of the event is 7 to 8 p.m.
Mabton High School graduates will be honored with diplomas Friday, June 5, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Ceremonies will take place in the Mel Todd Gymnasium at Mabton High School and tickets are not necessary, but seating is limited to a first come, first served basis.
The seating on the floor will be reserved for immediate family members of the graduates.
Class valedictorian Patricia "Trishi" Williams will be speaking and the class salutatorian has not yet been determined.
Mabton High School's class of 2009 consists of approximately 65 students, but the students are still completing graduation requirements and the number graduating will be determined in approximately one week.
For Bickleton High School, Kim Clinton has been invited by the class of 2009 as its faculty speaker. Commencement exercises will be held in the high school gymnasium Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m. and tickets are not required for the event.
Eight students will be graduating this year and a slide show featuring the graduates will be shown during the ceremony.
Principal Ric Palmer will present the class with scholarships and diplomas.
Also, a baccalaureate will take place at Bickleton First Presbyterian Church Wednesday, June 3, at 7 p.m. followed by a reception for Bickleton High School's graduating class of 2009.
The public is invited to attend both the baccalaureate and commencement exercises.
