CLE ELUM - Sophomore Justin Bos turned in the low round for the Sunnyside High School boys golf team at yesterday's Mid-Valley League POD match, staged at Suncadia Resort.
Tuesday's POD competition was the final league match of the season for the boys. They open District tourney play next Monday, May 8, at the Yakima Elks Golf Course in Selah.
In playing the Suncadia Resort yesterday, the Mid-Valley League golfers played from the blue tees, which stretch the course to a 6,641-yard affair. The Grizzlies were unable to field a full four-man squad, thus forfeited league points to the six other teams.
Bos fired a 13-over-par 85 to post the low Sunnyside score. He was consistent throughout, carding a 42 on the front nine and a 43 on the back side.
The sophomore had three memorable moments in his round, each of which resulted in birdies. Starting his round on No. 14, he snared his first bird on the par-5 18th hole by rolling a 50-footer into the cup. Bos's second bird came on the par-5 fourth hole. He completed the hat trick with a birdie on the par-3 12th.
Sam Bardell carded the second low round for the Grizzlies. He posted a 49 on his front nine scorecard, ballooning to a 58 after the turn for a 107. Teammate Andrew Swinehart finished on Bardell's heels, shooting a 111 on front and back nine scores of 52-59.
The Sunnyside girls golf team elected not to compete at the league POD match at Toppenish's Mt. Adams Country Club yesterday afternoon. The Lady Grizzly linksters are scheduled to close out conference play at a POD competition this coming Thursday at Horn Rapids in Richland, the site of the girls District tournament on May 10.
